If you have never been a big fan of porridge (like I was) you HAVE TO give a try to this “Nutella” porridge! It will absolutely change your concept of porridge as you knew it. I took my time to actually enjoy porridge because of its strange gooey texture but this one is truly like having an amazing and delicious chocolate dessert for breakfast.
Adding hazelnuts and chunks of dark chocolate gives a delicious crunch to this porridge that really tastes like Nutella! Only without palm oil and tons of sugar… The best thing is to serve warm and add immediately the chunks of chocolate because some pieces will melt letting you with a combination of different delicious textures.
Let’s go!
Gluten-free, Refined sugar-free, Nut-free*, Vegan
Yield: 3-4 servings
Time: 15 min
Ingredients
1 cup (100 gr) rolled oats (gluten-free if necessary)
2 cups (500 ml) water
1 cup (250 ml) vegetable milk
1 pinch of salt
2 Tbsp (30 ml) maple syrup
1 Tbsp pure cocoa powder
1/2 cup (80 gr) dark chocolate chunks (optional)
1/2 cup (70 gr) chopped roasted hazelnuts (optional)
Directions
1. In a deep pot or saucepan put the oats, salt, milk, and water over medium heat, bring to a boil and immediately lower the heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon for 5 -7 minutes until you get a creamy consistency.
2. Remove from the heat and pour in the maple syrup. Stir.
3. Add the cocoa and stir well.
4. Pour in bowls and add chunks of dark chocolate, coconut, and hazelnuts.
By the way…
For a nut-free version just leave the hazelnuts out. You can also use any other nut or seed.
I personally like to take the porridge as soon as it is cooked but you can also store each portion in a small airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze it for up to 3 months. All you need to do when you are ready to use it is reheat it in a microwave and stir well before eating, adding extra liquid if necessary.
